Honestly, yes, I think Scar would have actually cared about and for his cubs. He states in the play that he wants cubs, never specifies gender, and even gets soft spoken when he realizes a queen means cubs. Also they mean his lineage continues forever ("IMMORTALITY WILL BE MINE!") too.
